- How do I update my Profile?
- To add information to your profile and to add information about yourself, simply go to your 'MY ACCOUNT' section,
select 'EDIT DETAILS' and select:
- Account Settings to change your password, e-mail address and other account information
- Profile Settings to change your personal information or add information about yourself. Remember to write about
how you can help others, not about what you actually do. Make it benefit rich and you’ll find yourself getting plenty
of friend requests from people wanting to do business with you!
- Profile Picture to change your profile picture
- My Forum Settings to change settings for email notifications and forum signatures
- Where is my Contact Panel?
- Every profile page has a contact panel which allows you to have contact with different members on the site. Your own
contact panel isn't visible to you only to people visiting your profile page but believe me it is there.
- What is the Points thing for?
- This is an automatic facility within the website that accumulates more points each time you use the site.
- Making your URL active
- To make your website URL and email address active so that another member can click on it, you need to add the following
- code to your URL and email address.
- <a href="http://Your Web Address">Your Web Address</a>
- <a href="mailto:Your Email Address">Your Email Address</font></a>
- For example for Business Women Unite it would be:
- <a href="http://www.businesswomenunite.net">www.businesswomenunite.net</a>

Web Address/URL
Just one more word of advice – when setting up your profile, please DON'T use the prefix http:// when inserting your website.
The site already does this for you, so all you need to do is put in the www. Go and check yours now!!!
Make New Friends
- If you would like to invite someone to be your friend, simply click on their profile picture and within the CONTACT PANEL,
click ‘ADD TO FRIENDS’. They will be sent an email which they will need to approve. Once they have approved the
request, you will become friends.
- You may find yourself bombarded with friend requests from others. Take these seriously as these people then have the
opportunity to contact you at any time via Business Women Unite. Although the site is for networking, sometimes businesses
clash, or don’t have anything in common. The same applies for online networking. Approve your friend requests only if you feel
that you want to contact this person, or be invited into their personal network.
- Invite your Friends
- Everyone has friends and associates that they meet somewhere or other so invite them to join you on the site. Simply use
the “INVITE” link at the bottom of the home page or within your profile after you log in. Insert your friend’s emails and they
get a message from you, telling them about the site and to come and join. That way, you can get even more friends to chat with!
- Keeping your Friends Informed
- You can create your very own Bulletins. Used only amongst you and your friends, it allows you to send bulletins to your friends
about what you have to offer. Use it wisely, as if you continue to spam your friends with offers, you will soon find that you are
loner!!! Simply go to ‘My Account” and then click on the ‘Bulletin’ tab. Choose to post a bulletin or read those that have
been sent to you from your friends. Some good uses are for special offers, or introducing new services etc.
Search for Contacts
You may want to find a business in a particular industry or in a particular location. You can use the SEARCH USERS section
to do just this. You can search by nature of business, location, email, username and many more. The keyword search allows
you to drill down even further.
Promote your business
- We have created a new section on the forum, the bullet board where you can actively promote your business in one place.
You will need to put a little thought into it before hand as each member can only have one and you will need to keep your
post to fewer than 300 words.
Polls
- You may want to get other members opinions. The Poll section on the website is a great way for you to gather information for
your business. It only takes a few minutes to do, simple go to your “MY ACCOUNT’ section, select “SUBMIT ITEMS’ and
then create your poll
Live Chat & Instant Messenger
- If you are feeling a little lonely at your office by yourself, or have a few spare moments and want to chat, then the ‘Live Chat’
area is just what you need. You will find the link at the very top of your screen after you log in. Once in the Live Chat arena you
will find a drop down box with various rooms to choose from. At present, we have only two rooms however we will be adding
more shortly.
- Beside this live chat button you will also find the instant messenger link. If you’ve ever used MSN Messenger or Yahoo chat,
you will know how it works. If you’ve not yet found how useful 'Instant Messenger' can be, then hang on!! Simply find someone
you want to chat with (from your friends only) and then start up an instant messenger conversation. Only you two can see it,
and you can get instant messages from one to the other – kind of like a very quick email session!
Groups
- For those who really want to turbo charge their business, ‘groups’ are for you. Connecting with the right people is one of the
key success factors of business. Well now you can! You can build new relationships by creating your own group of friends, a
business group, a networking group or a get out of the office group where you can arrange to meet other members for a coffee
and chat. Each group has its own private forum where you can interact with others.This is the place to find your business
mentors and to learn from others.
